The Mission

A water pipe that makes smoking a more comfortable and healthier experience.

The challenge

I’m currently finishing a prototype of The Machine 2.0, a bong (also known as a water pipe) that is more advanced than any other product on the market in the same category. I already have a physical prototype, I am now testing it.

The solution

I made a high capacity bong with ice chambers, that actively cool down the smoke after it goes through a water filtration process that filters out all physical pollutants. Due to the high smoke capacity (of 14,5 litres) the process of filling up the main chamber is done by the built in vacuum pump. For a higher comfort of operating the device, as well as for the aesthetic reasons, there are LED strips attached to the edges of the device, that create a pleasant glow. The focus of the device is on making the smoking process more healthy and enjoyable. Each of the two hoses through which the users can inhale the smoke are attached to an ice chamber, built into the device. Both ice chambers are filled with stainless still balls, that after being cooled in the freezer actively cool down the smoke as it passes through them. Both sets of balls are enclosed in small bags, for easier usage (taking them out and putting in/out of the freezer). Before cumulating in the main smoke chamber, and straight after forming in the intake pipe, the smoke passes through filtration chamber filled with water, that filters out all the mechanical pollutants. The user can also put ice cubes inside the water, adding to the cooling capabilities of the device. Due to their shape and size, conventional water pipes usually force the user to hunch up. While using the Machine 2.0, due to the considerable length of the hoses, as well as the possibility to use the device both on a table and standalone (using the wooden protective casing that also functions as a stand) users can enjoy the smoke in many comfortable positions. All above mentioned features ensure that smoking becomes a much healthier experience. First, due to filtration chambers, the user does not inhale any micro or macro pollutants, that negatively affect lungs. Thanks to the cooling systems, the smoke does not irritate the throat as badly as when using other forms of smoking. And due to the usage functionalities of the stand, it prevents any negative impacts on the posture.
